Ryan Briscoe admitted his frustration after coming out third best from the championship finale in Miami on Saturday. Having been the first man to lead the standings in 2009 - courtesy of his St. Petersburg win in April - the Australian Penske driver finishes the year 12 points off the top spot.
With Briscoe having somewhat been the outsider heading into the final race of the season, second place may have been achieved in the race although a clever strategy by Dario Franchitti allowed the Scot to slip ahead thanks to making one pit-stop less than both Briscoe and Scott Dixon.
"It's pretty frustrating," an honest Ryan said in the aftermath of Round 17. "It was one of the best races I've ever run - I just hate that it came down to fuel strategy, it's a whole championship.
"Dario has been great all year long, so congrats to him, but it hurts - I thought it was going to be between me and Scott, definitely. I guess the 10 car (Franchitti) had the advantage."
