The leading trio in the championship continued to be the leading trio on the timesheets as the hour-long practice second practice session took place at Homestead. Oval specialist and championship leader Scott Dixon continued to lead the way although Helio Castroneves was in big trouble and in the wall.
With Ganassi drivers Dixon and Dario Franchitti up against each other as well as Penske's Ryan Briscoe in the last race of the season on Saturday, Briscoe's team-mate may find it difficult to play the supporting role after his car was significantly damaged in a shunt which meant the session came to a close two minutes premature.
Victim of a suspected left-rear suspension failure, Castroneves spun into the retaining wall at high speed but thankfully escaped uninjured. Sarah Fisher was also in trouble, having changed an engine and lost running time.
Graham Rahal was the fourth fastest man with Alex Lloyd again looking competitive, in the top five for Target Chip Ganassi. Brazilians Moraes and Matos made up the second half of the top ten with Danica Patrick, Ed Carpenter and South African Tomas Scheckter.
