Indy Lights Champion Lloyd to race in Miami

03 September 2009

Manchester's Alex Lloyd will be driving for the Newman/Haas/Lanigan team at this year's season-ending race in Miami, the outfit has announced. The 24-year-old will make his return to the IndyCar Series after a joint stint in May with Chip Ganassi Racing and Rahal Letterman Racing for the Indianapolis 500.

Revealed this week as team-mate to Graham Rahal and Oriol Servia at the final race on 19 October, Lloyd is pleased to have completed the deal that sees him back in IndyCars, albeit for a solitary race.

The event is the Englishman's second of the season after Indy, however, where he qualified 11th and finish 13th. Alex is the only driver in IRL history to have won on both the Indianapolis infield track circuit and the world-famous oval, in Indy Lights' 2006 and 2007 seasons respectively.
