Changes made to 2010 calendar

27 August 2009

Championship organisers Indy Racing League (IRL) have made modifications to the 2010 race calendar by changing the dates of those races in Texas and Motegi. The former has now been placed on the first weekend of June, as opposed to the second, whereas the Japanese event transfers from a Saturday to a Sunday race.

With the first draft of next year's calendar having been released on 31 July, the changes came as IRL released the second version, which is still missing the venue of the Brazilian season-opener on Sunday 14 March.

"We worked with our promoter partners to ensure they had race dates that fit their needs and worked for the series as well," explained Terry Angstadt, President of IRL's commercial division. "Both Texas Motor Speedway and Twin Ring Motegi came to us in recent weeks looking to make adjustments based on various factors and we were happy to work with them to make the appropriate changes."

Texas therefore moves from Saturday 12 June to Saturday 5 June, only six days after the Indianapolis 500 on the previous Sunday, as the venue requested an IndyCar-NASCAR Camping World Truck Series double-header weekend. Motegi remains on the weekend of 18-19 September, despite the day change.
