Michael Andretti will assume full management duties of the Andretti Green Racing (AGR) team for the 2010 season, it has been confirmed. The American will take on the increased responsibilities after reaching an agreement with current business partners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree this week.
With Green and Savoree agreeing to take a step back from the team in order to concentrate more deeply on the outfit's Andretti Green Promotions company - that behind the IndyCar races of St. Petersburg and Toronto - Andretti will take full charge of the squad which currently runs the greatest amount of cars in the series, with five to its name.
'Since becoming partners in 2002, we have been fortunate to see our companies expand and diversify quickly and successfully,' reads a statement from the current trio of team bosses. 'All of us believe that this decision will maximise the potential of both companies in the future.'
"The reason we're doing it is because this thing is getting to be too big and too much," Andretti explained to the IndyStar. "It was distracting both sides - we just wanted to be responsible."
