Former Honda team principal Gil de Ferran has announced that he is to start his own IndyCar team to join the American IRL-run series in 2010. On top of this, the Brazilian has also announced that he will be retiring from racing as a driver.
De Ferran is still an active racer. The winner of the 2003 Indianapolis 500 is currently racing in the American Le Mans Series although the recent announcement came at this weekend's Mid-Ohio Indy round at Lexington.
The Paris-born driver, now 41 years old, entered Formula One as B.A.R sporting director in 2005 before leaving the them, then under its Honda guise, in July of 2007.
