Dixon back in front

28 July 2009

As Scott Dixon collected a podium finish at Edmonton on Sunday, Dario Franchitti came home in fifth position which handed the championship lead back to the current title holder. With six races remaining in the seventeen race championship, the margin atop the standings is three points.

With the championship lead having been shared several times already this year, it is now the New Zealander with the lead as he aims for a second consecutive crown. "It was one of the toughest races we've ever run," the Ganassi driver said after squeezing amongst the dominant Penske cars in Canada. "It's definitely a tough circuit and it gets a lot tougher when you don't have the best car - we were definitely hanging on.

"We seemed to be pretty good for about half the stint on the Firestone tyres but we just abused them too much. After that it was just so slippery I just had to hang on but it was a great day for Team Target, we gained some valuable points."
