Ryan Hunter-Reay was pleased to kick-off his 2009 season with a second place at St. Petersburg on Sunday; the Vision Racing driver finished less than half a second behind winner Ryan Briscoe, with a late-race caution restart resulting in a two-lap sprint to the flag.

28-year-old Hunter-Reay, who had signed to drive for the team on only Wednesday, completed a storming drive to come up by twelve positions from 14th at the start. The Dallas star almost took advantage of leader Briscoe, with a lunge at Turn 1 on lap 93 being his best opportunity, but the Australian was firm with keeping the door shut.
"It was a good, clean race for us," Hunter-Reay explained afterwards. "Late in the race, I was thinking long-term with points. You couldn't step a foot off-line without jeopardising your car, so I kept it in-line for the team. It's been a long week for everyone in the team, and those who worked on getting it here deserve the credit."
